DAILY ART FIX: Israeli artist, curator and gallery founder Chaim Peri has died in Hamas captivity, aged 79

RIP Chaim Peri

One good thing about the dying days of the Postmodern empire is the masks are finally coming off. Some are so smugly assured in their ideological virtue signaling they openly support savages that kidnap and murder innocent civilians. What makes it especially sad is when some of the victims were known as “peace activists” who were trying to assist the same forces that ultimately massacred them.

Israeli artist Chaim Peri, 79, was one such individual. He was kidnapped by Hamas on October 7 and declared dead June 3.

A self-taught artist who sketched, sculpted, filmed and wrote screenplays and children’s books, Peri was primarily known in the Israeli cultural community as the founder and curator of The White House gallery in the fields between Nir Oz and neighbouring Kibbutz Nirim.

Born in Givatayim, Peri moved to Nir Oz when he was 18 and, among other roles, worked as a metalworker. Like several other residents of the region (including Oded Lifshitz, who remains in Hamas captivity), Peri volunteered with The Road to Recovery—a non-profit group of Israeli volunteers driving and accompanying Palestinians from checkpoints in Gaza and the West Bank to receive medical care in Israel.

DAILY ART FIX: Giant Antisemitic Sculpture Removed from Burning Man Art Installation

Art world links that caught my eye…

From the River to the Sea,” Proposed Burning Man Installation

Burning Man is a celebration of Postmodern neo-pagen decadence, but one genocidal “artwork” was too much for even them. The title was a slogan calling for the destruction of Israel and the Jewish people. The watermelon was supposed to symbolize the colors for the flag of the non-existent country of Palestine.

“The 8-foot-by-14-foot fiberglass watermelon has the genocidal title ‘From the River to the Sea’ and was previously listed on the event’s website as part of the installation, but organizers suggest it was only submitted to cause a ‘stir’ and ‘likely won’t be part of the annual festival.’

“A petition signed by more than 1,100 people demanded its removal…”
